On Saturday, September 20, 2014, The May Chidiac Foundation held its 4th Annual Media Awards Ceremony at O1NE. The event was hosted by Mrs. Maysoon Azam, political anchor at Al-Arabiya News Chanel and Mr. Ayman El-Kaissouni, TV show host and Senior Media Manager for Ipsos in Egypt and Sudan.
The Antoine Choueiri Special Tribute for Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Christiane Amanpour, host of CNN International’s Nightly Interview Program “Amanpour”, Chief International Correspondent at CNN, and former Global Affairs Anchor at ABC News. In her speech, Amanpour stated, “Without impartiality, without objectivity, without actually telling the truth we simply then can risk fanning the flame of politics and ideology and differences.”
The Engaged Journalism Award was given to Anas Aremeyaw Anas, Ghanaian Undercover Investigative Journalist and Political Talk Show Host at Hona Baghdad, Dalia Al Aqidi.
The third award, Courage in Journalism, was presented to Nicolas Hénin, reporter at Le Point and Baker Atyani, Al-Arabiya Correpondent in East Asia. Hénin was taken into captivity for after 10 months in Syria by ISIS, and Atyani was also taken into captivity by Abou Sayaf in the Philippines.
The fourth award for Outstanding Audiovisual Performance was delivered to Foreign Correspondent at NBC News, Ayman Mohyeldin.
The awards were presented to the awardees by: Minister of Labor Sejaan Azzi, Minister of Tourism Michel Pharaon, Ms. Lena Nahas, ambassador of France to Lebanon HE Patrice Paoli, Director of CELSA Paris-Sorbonne Ms. Véronique Richard, Vice President and Managing Editor of Associated Press Mr. John Daniszewski, Group TV Director of MBC Mr. Ali Jaber, the Chair of IPI Executive Board and Chairperson of Foundation for Investigative Journalism – Foundation 19/29 – Russia Galina Sidorova, and the former Director of UNESCO’s Global Field Operations Mr Mogens Schmidts.
All throughout the evening, guests were entertained by startling performances by Michel Fadel, Shawn Agaustine, Aline Lahoud and Latifa.
The event received wide acclaim by media, banking, artistic and political figures as well as journalists. The audience included HE Lama Salam, Mrs Hoda Siniora, a representative of the former Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri, a representative of the President of the Lebanese Forces MP Sethrida Geagea, President of the National Liberal Party MP Dory Chamoun, along with a gathering of ministers, MPs, and ambassadors including MP Ahmad Fatfat, Minister of Labor Sejaan Azzi, Minister of Tourism Michel Pharaon, French Ambassador Patrice Paoli, and former First Ladies Solange Gemayel, Nayla Moawad and Mona Hrawi.
