The May Chidiac Foundation-Media Institute held its annual Media Awards Ceremony on September 15, 2015 at the Pavillon Royal in Biel.
In attendance were social and artistic figures as well as former and current ministers and MPs. The awards were given to journalists who went above and beyond the call of duty in their fields.
The Antoine Choueiri Special Tribute for Lifetime Acheivment award was given to Lally Weymouth, Senior Assoicate Editor of the Washington Post. The award was presented to her by Education Minister Elias Bou Saab and Mr. Pierre-Antoine Choueiri the head of Choueiri Group.
The Engaged Journalist Award was awarded to the British photographer Sebastian Rich for his commitment to humanitarian issues. The award was presented to him by Education Minister Elias Bou Saab and Mrs. Maha Shair, former journalist and member of the MCF Executive Board.
The Courage in Journalism Award was given to CNN Senior International Correspondent Arwa Damon. Dr. May Chidiac and Telecommunications Minister Boutros Harb handed her the award.
The Outstanding Media Performance Award was presented to director Amin Boukhris from Tunisia. Boukhris was presented his award by Minister Boutros Harb and Mr. Edward Munanrias, member of the Board of Directors of Ipsos company for the Middle East and Africa, and member of the Executive Board for MCF.
On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the series of assassinations suffered by political figures and journalists in 2005, the May Chidiac Foundation-Media Institute awarded honorary plaques in remembrance of the lives of journalists Gebran Tueni and Samir Kassir. They were recieved by Nayla Tueni and Giselle Khoury and presented to them by Interior Minister Nohad Mashnook and Larry Kilman, the Secretary General of World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers. A surprise was set up in which Information Minister Ramzi Jreij honored Minister Marwan Hamadeh and Dr. May Chidiac after displaying a short film summarizing the main milestones in their lives.
The attendees including former president General Michel Suleiman, a representative of the Prime Minister Tammam Salam, a representative of former Prime Minister Saad Hariri, the Minister of Information Ramzi Jreij, Interior Minister Nohad Mashnook, Defense Minister Samir Moqbel, Education Minister Elias Bou Saab, Telecommunications Minister Boutros Harb, former minister Bassem Sabaa, the head of the national Liberal Party MP Dory Chamoun, MP Hadi Hobeich, Farid Makari, former first ladies Wafaa Sleiman, Solange Gemayel, Mona Hraoui and Nayla Mouawad, as well as Maha Makari, and several ambassadors and media institutions.
